We get it. Caring for an aging loved one while meeting the demands of work, tending to kids, and managing a never-ending to-do list can leave even the most ambitious of us feeling emotionally and physically drained.
You're not alone; we can help! At Kalmia, we relieve the stress and anxiety around caring for an aging loved one by delivering personalized, trustworthy, and compassionate in-home care services. We are committed to providing the same level of care and support to the seniors of Fairfield County and their loved ones that we would want for our families.
Our name comes from Connecticut’s state flower, the Mountain Laurel, or Kalmia latifolia. Kalmia (kal-mee-uh) flowers are capable of growing in rocky, steep, mountainous areas, where most other flowers are unable to survive. This resilient bloom’s ability to overcome adversity and thrive, despite difficult circumstances, inspires us to persevere through challenges, and we hope to help you and your loved ones do the same.
Kalmia flowers are evergreen plants that bloom all year long, and they are always found in clusters of blossoms. The unified grouping of flowers is paralleled by our belief in gathering and in strengthening community. We aim to partner with you to provide the best care possible to your loved ones, in every season of life.
I get it. I’ve been there. Hi, I’m Anna-kay, founder and owner of Kalmia HomeCare.
Like many women, I shoulder the responsibility of caring for an aging loved one–in this instance, my beloved grandmother, who lives with dementia.
My journey began unexpectedly and out of necessity. My mother, the strongest and most resilient woman I know, had reached her breaking point as the sole caregiver for my grandmother. Stepping in to help, I moved back home. I left behind my independence, my career, and any hope of a good night’s sleep.
The sacrifices I made left me feeling resentful, exhausted, confused, frustrated, and guilty for feeling the way I did. I started Kalmia to help caregivers like myself who are struggling to care for their loved ones and for themselves.
The care of your loved one shouldn’t be left to just anyone. I’ve drawn on my 10-plus years of professional experience working in social services with the British Embassy Washington and the American Red Cross, to help build a home care agency that delivers on its promises and has ethics at its core. The lessons on service, sacrifice, and community that I learned as a U.S. Air Force Veteran and New Jersey National Guard member have emboldened me to champion for the care of others, especially those most vulnerable. Both professionally and personally, I am uniquely qualified to help you and your family navigate the complexities of managing compassionate and competent home care services.
Kalmia caregivers and staff come from families experienced with giving and receiving care. Whether it's taking Mom to her doctor's appointments or helping Dad shop for groceries, I know how crucial having a competent, professional, and client-focused caregiver is for giving families the relief and peace of mind they deserve.
